The Maori Party remains popular with Maori, one year on from the election.

A TVNZ Marae digipoll released today surveyed just over 1,000 people on the Maori and general rolls. Were an election held today, 48.1 percent of Maori would vote for the Maori Party. Labour would draw 26.1 percent support, and National 19.8 percent.

John Key tops the list as preferred Prime Minister with 30 percent support, Helen Clark rated 10.9, while 8.7 percent of people want Pita Sharples to lead the country.

When asked which of the 16 MPs with Maori ancestry they preferred, 32.8 percent picked Pita Sharples followed by 18.6 percent who chose Tariana Turia.

The poll was taken before the current scandal erupted around Hone Harawira's trip to Paris and the resulting emails.
