Tsunami support coming to a close

23/10/2009 15:40:02

New Zealand medical support to tsunami-struck Samoa is being wound down.

With no new tsunami-related cases reported at Apia's hospital in the past two weeks Health Minister Tony Ryall says care is now largely being handed over to local health agencies. He says a small New Zealand team, two nurses and trauma counsellors, will remain in Samoa until next week.

Mr Ryall says at the peak of the emergency 30 New Zealand health professionals provided medical help and he is commending them for their efforts.
