McDonalds managers are relieved at a partnership with Work and Income New Zealand to find more recruits. During the next three years the fast food giant will need 6,000 staff to fill 30 new restaurants around the country. Chief executive Mark Hawthorne says McDonalds found it difficult to find staff over the past few years of low unemployment. He says with unemployment increasing, the company is finding employees from different places. "We do attract people from a number of different sources and Work and Income are just one of them. But then again any help to find high-quality individuals is very well received by our managers." Mr Hawthorne says new recruits will have the option of doing an NZQA qualification during their time at McDonalds. Beneficiaries hope the deal with McDonalds will be rolled out over other industries. Auckland District Council of Social Services benefits and disability spokeswoman Helen Capel says there are a lot of industries looking for trained staff. "Your employer knows what he's getting and you also know the advantages as well. I think it's an ideal situation for a lot of industries." Ms Capel says the problem with getting qualifications at training institutions, rather than hands on work, is that you often do not get the experience you need.
