Marina Erakovic will not play Wimbledon

10/06/2009 11:04:20

New Zealand Tennis number one Marina Erakovic has pulled out of Wimbledon.

Erakovic has met with her medical team and has decided she will not be ready for the year's third Grand Slam at the All England Club later this month. The 20 year old has been off the WTA Tour since March with a stress reaction in her hip. Her ranking is set to plummet to around the 200 mark after Wimbledon where she reached the third round last year.

Erakovic will head to Europe next month to resume practicing. If she does not play until the end of September she will be able to use an injury protected ranking for eight WTA Tour events.
