Fien says no to UK deal due to tax

09/04/2009 10:48:02

Warriors halfback Nathan Fien has turned down a three year deal with English Super League club Huddersfield.

Out of favour at the Warriors and playing off the bench, Fien says tax law changes in England have influenced his decision to look at other options in the NRL.

In the past, players in Britain were able to put half their money away which they were not taxed on. However, Fien says British government has changed the rules due to the economic woes and it is putting a big dent in what players can earn in the UK.

Fien says while a decision is not final, he is looking at other opportunities in the NRL. The 29-year-old remains contracted to the Warriors this year but admits he is probably heading back to Australia next season.
