Maori and Alliance Parties get thumbs up

25/09/2008 5:32:02

When it comes to the style and impact of political party logos a design expert has found many party brands are wanting.

Dow Design director Annie Dow says most parties are speaking to older voters and risk not engaging with the 149,000 first time voters at this year's election.

She says Labour's logo has more in common with the 1970s, while National's brand is very 1980s and more suited to a bank. Annie Dow says the Greens are also dated and New Zealand First comes across as a big solid block that will not move. She says ACT is like Rodney Hide's jacket; big, brash, and yellow.

Only the Maori Party and the Alliance get a thumbs up for their efforts.

Dow Design director Annie Dow says the Alliance Party have created a much simpler logo, ditching their old koru style A for a more modern look. She is also impressed with the Maori Party logo saying it is looking strong with the party's values strongly represented.
