Aid contribution to Kiribati increases

09/06/2008 15:36:09

Additional aid will be going to the Pacific island of Kiribati following the signing of a declaration in Wellington today.

Prime Minister Helen Clark and Kiribati President Anote Tong met at Parliament this morning.

Helen Clark says Kiribati will receive $32 million in aid over the next five years, increasing annual allocations from $3.5 million to $6 million. She says key areas where the aid will be used are in Kiribati's marine training centre and in the nation's sustainable towns programme.
