Mayor supports crackdown

05/04/2008 17:32:08

The mayor of Hutt City is happy with the police crackdown on boy racers.

Seven cars have been netted for outstanding fines totalling more than $20,000. One driver paid off the fines he owed in full, and the other six all had their vehicles seized and will need to make arrangements to pay.

Mayor David Ogden says boy racers have been a problem in the area for some time. Although the sting occurred last night, he says the city becomes a magnet for boy racers on Thursdays when it is late-night shopping. Mr Ogden says locals have had enough of the noise these cars make.
