Green MP Keith Locke is concerned at the ties between China and Fiji. With Fiji on the outer with New Zealand and Australia since the 2006 coup, China has been filling the void by offering aid. Fiji has reciprocated by giving its support for China's measures against protesters in Tibet. Mr Locke says China's aid to Fiji is a concern and shows the lack of democracy in China should not be taken lightly. He says it is bad enough that Commodore Bainimarama has trampled on democracy in Fiji, let alone supporting Beijing's suppression of Tibetan rights. Mr Locke says the New Zealand Government should criticise Fiji's actions.
