The head of one of the Christchurch high schools affected by the deaths of two teenagers hopes her students will stay away from a rally being organised for this weekend. Hannah Rossiter and Jane Young died after being struck by a car at a St Albans party in Edgeware Road on Saturday night. Text messages were used to spread the news of the party and the same method is being used to bring youngsters back to the scene of the party to hold a minute's silence on Saturday night. Hannah Rossiter was a student at St Margaret's College and executive principal Claudia Wysocki does not want to see her students anywhere near an unsupervised rally. She says young people need to go through the grieving process, but there is a difference between grief and hysteria. Meanwhile Psychologists are urging people to take a closer look into the tragic potential text messaging can have. It has emerged the party was organised by a mass text to hundreds of Christchurch youngsters. Waikato University's senior psychology lecturer Neville Roberston says like emails, texts have the advantage of being quick and impersonal. He says because you do not have to face the immediate reaction of the person you are texting, people often do not think twice before they push send.
