Greg Carvell disappointed prosecution going ahead

12/02/2007 14:28:03

Auckland gun shop employee Greg Carvell can not believe he is still being prosecuted for shooting a machete-wielding robber.

Mr Carvell has been charged with possessing a firearm without lawful purposes. He had hoped the case might be dropped at a pre-depositions hearing today, but was warned by his lawyer it was not likely.

A fortnight ago, at the sentencing of Ricky Beckham, the man who was shot, a High Court judge said he did not believe Mr Carvell deserved to be charged.

Mr Carvell thinks someone should act on that. But today he was remanded at large for a depositions hearing on June 6.

Mr Carvell has thanked everyone for their continued support and says he had hoped this would be over sooner, but later will have to do.
