French animal rights' activists are up in arms over a recipe book that is due to hit the shelves for Christmas.

It features a recipe for hedgehog stew, despite the fact the spiky mammal is a protected species in France.

Animal protection groups have gone to the courts to stop the book being published. They are challenging the right author's right to tell hunters how to cook up an endangered animal.
