Hope still held for Carlaw Park

05/12/2006 10:24:02

The argument to have the Rugby World Cup stadium at Auckland's Carlaw Park is by no means dead.

Funding company MPI believes it has two private companies willing to pay half of the $400 million it would cost to build. Director Lloyd Parrant will not reveal what the companies are, only saying they are international and fund infrastructure, including roads and airports.

Mr Parrant is hoping he can convince the owners of the park not to press on with the retirement village to be developed on the site. He says they will be trying to find another site for the home, and showing the profit to be made out of a stadium. He says they will be having those discussions this week.

Mr Parrant says they already have the drawings of what would be a 40 thousand seat stadium, with 20 thousand removable seats.
