23/09/2006 11:28:02

After a year in parliament the Maori Party is on track with its core audience.

A Marae DigiPoll survey of Maori voters on both the Maori and general roll shows if an election was held tomorrow 43 percent would vote for the Maori Party.

Helen Clark tops the poll as preferred Prime Minister on 42-percent, followed by Winston Peters on nearly 10-percent and Pita Sharples on 8-percent.

Pita Sharples is the favourite Maori MP, followed by Tariana Turia and Winston Peters.

Overall 50-percent of Maori voters are satisfied with the government's performance, 44-percent are not. Treaty issues are viewed as the most important issue, followed by health, education and unemployment.
