Rock on show at pub tonight

22/09/2006 8:40:12

The owner of a rock that made headlines following a sonic boom across Canterbury last week is not ready to hand it over for further testing.

Tania Haigh found the rock in a paddock on her property in Dunsandel, 40 kilometres south of Christchurch. She believes it could be a meteorite.

Scientists at the National Radiation Laboratory have analysed the rock and have ruled it is not a piece of space rock. They have suggested the owner have further testing carried out by geologists to find out exactly what it is.

But Ms Haigh says she is not ready for it to be cut up yet. The palm sized rock will be on show at the Dunsandel Tavern tonight.
