It's likely to be some time before the full extent of earthquake damage in the Solomon Islands becomes clear.
But aid agencies have confirmed homes on the island of Makira were badly damaged in yesterday's 7.8 magnitude jolt.
World Vision's Janes Ginting said there are simple things which can be done quickly, to help people who've been affected.
"The community in this situation will likely need some safe drinking water. They probably also need some soap and temporary shelter."
