US Republican Donald Trump has come out defending US gun laws despite outrage following the Oregon Community College shooting that left nine dead.

Speaking at a rally in Nashville Tennessee, Mr Trump said he has a handgun carry permit in New York.

Mr Trump said if anyone tried to assault him, they would be 'shocked' with his response which would resemble Charles Bronson in the vigilante film "Death Wish."

He went on to say the shootings would have been limited if instructors and students had been armed.
