UPDATED 8.40pm: Gable Tostee has been acquitted of both the murder and manslaughter of New Zealand tourist Warriena Wright.

The 26 year-old fell to her death from Tostee's 14th floor Gold Coast apartment in 2014, after an alcohol-fuelled argument.

An audio recording of their fight - made by Tostee on his phone - was played during his trial.

The court heard how the pair struggled, before Tostee locked Ms Wright out on his balcony.

He was charged with her murder, with the prosecution arguing he intimidated Ms Wright so much she felt the only way to escape him was to try to climb down to the apartment below.

Tostee and his lawyer have just appeared before media in front of the courthouse.

Tostee said nothing but his lawyer said his client was "looking forward to getting on with his life".

Wright’s family embraced tearfully in the courtroom after the verdict was read.

Tostee also embraced his family and shook hands with his legal team.

Tostee then left the courtroom to another room with his family. He has not yet left the court building.

Outside court, protestors have gathered outside yelling "stop violence against women”.

A spokesman for Wright's family told media outside the court the case had been "incredibly dramatic for everyone involved...let alone the families."

"They are still coming to terms with the loss of their daughter and sister. They've been quite overwhelmed by the media, which has added to their distress."

They thanked the police and agencies involved in the investigation and trial, before asking for privacy.

"So they have an opportunity to pull the pieces of their life back together again and have the space to grieve and breathe."
