Sexual abuse inquiry led by NZ judge doubted

A British woman reports she was sexually abused by a well-known politician and she has no process in an inquiry being led by a New Zealand judge.

Esther Baker has provided evidence against a Labour peer in a police investigation into 1400 alleged child sex abusers, but she admits she has no confidence in an inquiry into the politician's alleged abuse, being led by Justice Lowell Goddard.

Baker alleges police officers stood guard while she was abused. She also alleges the officers, who were often in uniform, would sometimes take part in the abuse.

She also believes a Lord and a judge were among her abusers.

UK correspondent Gavin Grey told Newstalk ZB she doesn't appear to be the only victim in this situation.

"They don't think this inquiry's ever going to finally going to open out what happened and find out exactly who was covering up what about whom."

Grey adds other survivors also have doubts.

"It's been criticised for being too wide a remit, criticised for being too narrow. Justice Goddard is the third person to chair the inquiry."
