UPDATED 6.53am Despite the denials of the IOC, it's been confirmed that four members of the US swim team have been robbed at gunpoint in Rio, including star Ryan Lochte.

The US Olympic Committee has confirmed earlier reports that Lochte and three others were held up after the group left the French team supporters club in the early hours.

A spokesperson says their taxi was stopped by men posing as armed offers who demanded money and personal belongings.

They’re all shaken but unharmed.

The International Olympic Committee earlier denied a report quoting Lochte’s mum as "absolutely not true"

It's not the first time the International Olympic Committee has denied reports over security related incidents in Rio.

Earlier in the week, the IOC said a media bus travelling in the Deodoro area was pelted by rocks, despite those travelling on the bus being adamant it was hit by bullets.
