Kiwi golfer Ryan Fox has broken into the men's top 100 for the first time after consecutive fourth-place finishes on the European Tour.

Fresh off his fourth at the Scottish Open in Aberdeen, Fox has jumped from No.122 in the world to No.95, and is now the second-highest ranked Kiwi.

He trails world No.77 Danny Lee, but moves ahead of the 110th-ranked Mike Hendry.

In Aberdeen, Fox matched the career-best tour outcome he secured at the Irish Open, despite two late bogeys that ruled him out of even higher honours.

A closing two-under 70 featured five mid-course birdies and represented a remarkable recovery after sitting in 74th after a poor opening round.

He followed that round up with successive rounds of 69, rising from 74th to 20th and then to fifth.

The 30-year-old finished on eight-under, five shots behind tournament winner Rafa Cabrera Bello, who beat England's Callum Shinkwin in a play-off.

Fox's results in Scotland and Ireland, as well as his sixth-place finish at the French Open earlier this month, put him in good stead ahead of the British Open.

It is his second appearance at next week's major, having finishing 49th at St Andrews two years ago.
