A controversial knighthood in Australia has reignited debate about whether the country should split from the monarchy.
Prince Philip has been knighted for his service to Australia as part of his role supporting the Queen throughout her reign.
Australian political analyst Norman Abjorensen told Newstalk ZB's Mike Hosking it's now emerged Prime Minister Tony Abbott didn't consult with any of his political colleagues before recommending the knighthood.
"General feeling among his colleagues about why didn't he consult after people are going to laugh at this - well, they're dead right, and almost single-handedly Tony Abbott has reignited the republic issue in Australia."
