A New Zealander living in Adelaide, John Gaylor, says he and his wife had no choice but to bunker down for the evening as wild weather caused chaos across the city.
They sat in the dark with torches and ate salad, as venturing out for hot food hasn't been an option.
By late last night, power had been restored to most of Adelaide and only the northern parts of the state and the Eyre Peninsula were still off.
