A massive investigation is still underway in New South Wales as Australian police try to determine if missing toddler William Tyrell was snatched by a paedophile ring.

The three-year-old disappeared from his grandmother's property last September.

Detective Superintendent Mick Willing acknowledges the kidnapping is one line of inquiry.

""We are pursuing many many lines of inquiry. That paedophile ring angle is just one but all I can say is that there is a team of detectives working very, very hard."

He has confirmed the communication the police have received is detailed.

"We've received specific information, we are vigorously pursuing that information...I don't want to compromise what we're doing but as you can imagine this is a fast moving investigation, there are a lot of man hours going into this investigation. We are determined to work out what's happened."

An intense police investigation has so far failed to find the toddler.

Detective Superintendent Willing has told the media it is a tough time for the family.

"Look at William's parents and the emotional appeal they've made. you have to put yourself in their shoes. They've shown tremendous strength by doing what they've done and they deserve answers."
