The gunman who stormed Canada's parliament this week is being painted as a petty criminal who'd been fighting drug addiction.
32 year-old Michael Zehaf-Bibeau had moved across the country to make a fresh start, after a drug conviction in Montreal.
Canadian media say he was addicted to crack cocaine, and was drawn to Islam a decade ago as he tried to turn his life around.
He'd reportedly tried to turn himself in to authorities several times, hoping to be sent to jail where he'd receive rehabilitation.
