Jo McKenna: No stability for Italy yet

Italy has a new populist government -- but it will be led by a political moderate.

The leaders of the anti-establishment League Party and Five Star Movement have agreed to resurrect their proposed coalition government to avoid the uncertainty of a snap election.

Economics professor Giuseppe Conte remains the man who will become Italy's new prime minister.

Rome correspondent Jo McKenna told Mike Hosking he'll act as a negotiator between Europe and Euro-sceptics.

"He's not what I'd call a Euro sceptic but he's not always fully on board with the European Union and he's also had some criticism over some of the policies of this Government."

McKenna warns the new government may not last long - and says both parties are in campaign mode for another election.

"This Government is not going to hold together very long - I think we're still going to see elections within the next six months, so I think they're trying to hold it together."
