UPDATED 9.06AM: A car has ploughed into the outdoor terrace of a pizzeria in the small town of Sept-Sorts, east of Paris, killing an eight-year-old girl and injuring several other people.
French officials say the driver who steered into patrons of a pizza restaurant east of Paris clearly acted intentionally, but they have no reason so far to suspect a terrorist motive
A judicial official said on Monday night the Paris prosecutor's office, which oversees French terrorism investigations, was not involved in the case because there was no proof of terrorism at this stage.
BFM TV said on Monday the driver of the vehicle had been arrested. An official from the Seine-et-Marne prefecture declined to comment.
A security official said there is no evidence of a political or Islamic extremist motive.
The incident occurred less than a week after an Algerian national was arrested on suspicion of deliberately ramming a hire car into a group of soldiers on a patrol in a Parisian suburb, injuring six of them.
