Eurozone finance ministers have suspended a crunch meeting on Greece's debt crisis but are "determined" to try to reach a deal in the next 24 hours.

"We have not reached agreement yet. But we are determined to continue our work towards doing what is necessary," Eurogroup chief Jeroen Dijsselbloem said on Wednesday.

"We will now adjourn the meeting and reconvene at one o'clock (2100 AEST) tomorrow (Thursday)."

Ministers said that seven hours of "difficult" talks between Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and Athens's EU-IMF creditors in Brussels earlier on Wednesday had failed to give them enough to work with.

But Tsipras and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker were due to hold fresh talks starting at 11pm (0700 AEST) on Wednesday night, European sources said.
