Bill English is at a big economic forum in Peru this weekend, pushing the benefits of the TPP trade deal.
He's confident the package will get through the US Congress.
Mr English said the US is anxious to position itself as a leader in the region, and once the TPP is ratified it'll be good for all the participants.
"We see no reason why the political establishment of the U.S. would change its mind about the importance of getting the TPP through as an expression of their leadership."
He said the deal will open up new opportunities for exporters, so it's a good thing for New Zealand Inc.
"We've had a pretty good go at quantifying it, and it is significantly beneficial for us as I think it is for everyone there and that's why they've signed it - all political leadership these days is under pressure to deliver growth."
