At a fundraiser for Catholic charities in New York, Clinton said it was great to be in the city that boasts the Statue of Liberty.

However she quipped Mr Trump doesn't see it the way others do.

"They see a proud symbol of our history as a nation of immigrants. A beacon of hope for people around the world. Donald looks at the Statue of Liberty and sees a four. Maybe a five if she loses the torch and tablet and changes her hair."

Clinton used the opportunity to poke fun at her rival's claims she used performance enhancing drugs before their debates.

She said the only performance enhancer she used was preparation.

"I've had to listen to Donald for three full debates and he says I don;t have any stamina. That is four and a half hours. I have stood next to Donald Trump longer than any of his campaign managers."

Donald Trump's shown he has a sense of humour.

At a fundraising dinner in New York for needy children, the Presidential hopeful said the media's never been as biased.

"You want the proof. Michelle Obama gives a speech and everyone loves it. It's fantastic. They think she's absolutely great. My wife Melania gives the exact same speech and people get on her case."

After earning hearty laughs saying Clinton would give him a job as ambassador to Iran or Afghanistan if he won, Trump appeared to lose the crowd as he crossed the line to deeply personal insults aimed at his rival.

Trump was repeatedly booed when he described Clinton as corrupt and latched onto information contained in hacked emails from her staff.
