Clinton cleared as FBI closes renewed email investigation

UPDATED 11.58pm: Hillary Clinton won't face charges over her private email server.

FBI Director James Comey has concluded the investigation that was renewed last week, after emails were discovered on the devices of disgraced former politician Anthony Weiner.

Comey said in a letter today that no evidence had been found that would change the FBI's original decision, that Ms Clinton should not face charges.

Comey's letter to Congress last week informing it of the newly discovered emails had thrown Clinton's presidential race against Republican Donald Trump into turmoil.

Sources have told CNN the latest Hillary Clinton emails were mostly duplicates and personal emails.

The Clinton campaign said it was always confident the Democrat would be cleared.

"We were always confident nothing would cause the July decision to be revisited and now Director Comey has confirmed it," a spokesperson said on Twitter.

However, the Trump campaign argue nothing has changed.

Trump senior communications advisor Jason Miller said "there is still an active investigation into the Clinton Foundation, I think most Americans have looked at this case and realised that there is something corrupt, there is something shady."

"Should Secretary Clinton god forbid be elected President, these concerns and issues will run for a long time."
