Trials of medical cannabis start in New South Wales this week after being approved by Premier Mike Baird.
The $9 million trials will be conducted on children with severe epilepsy, terminally ill adults and those undergoing chemotherapy.
Health Minister Jillian Skinner says it could take years for cannabis to be approved for mainstream use.
However police now have new guidelines allowing them to look the other way with terminally-ill cannabis users and their carers.
