A controversial Islamic group bin Australia that has been linked to three counter-terrorism operations and a key IS recruiter is still meeting after claiming to have disbanded.

The Al-Furqan Islamic Information Centre closed its doors in Melbourne just days after its associates were arrested in an alleged plot to murder police on Anzac Day.

But the Sunday Herald Sun has found the group and its leader - hate preacher Harun Mehicevic - are still meeting at a suburban gym.

Federal police sources say they are aware Al-Furqan members have been meeting for Friday prayers at the Dandenong Council-owned Springers Leisure Centre in Keysborough.
