Winds of up to 130 kilometres an hour have delayed or caused the cancellation of some flights in and out of Wellington.
Air New Zealand flights affected include services to and from Palmerston North, Dunedin, Auckland, Hamilton, Christchurch, Queenstown, Tauranga and New Plymouth.
MetService predicts the severe nor-westers will ease this evening.
