Wellington's CentrePort has successfully recovered three shipping containers which were blown into the harbour by strong winds today.
Winds in excess of 100 kilometres an hour caused problems across the country and hampered efforts to recover the empty containers.
CentrePort's tug boats and Maritime Police battled rough seas and very strong winds for several hours to safely retrieve the empty containers.
