Wellington hospices are set to receive an extra $4.6 million in funding over the next four years.

The money has come from this year's Budget.

The Mary Potter and Te Omanga Hospice will benefit from the funding, taking effect from the beginning of July.

Health Minister Jonathan Coleman says hospices make a huge difference to people's lives by ensuring terminally ill people are as free from pain and suffering as possible.
