The Wellington City Council will be making decisions about some of the capital's controversial issues today.
Cigarette butt littering, a proposed sports hub in Johnsonville and Te Reo Maori will be among discussion at the city strategy committee meeting.
Though it's looking like the Wellington City Council will be the butt of the jokes when it comes to the proposed littering bylaw.
This morning councillors will be discussing the proposal to make it an offence to litter cigarette butts.
However, it's been discovered they already have the power to do this under the 1977 Litter Act.
It's being recommended the bylaw proposal go up in smoke - as it would also be unenforceable.
It's suggested council place their focus towards other smoke free initiatives instead.
In submissions, 85% of people supported making it an offence to litter cigarette butts.
Councillors will also be deciding whether a proposed extension to the Evans Bay freedom camping site and an additional park ranger will go ahead.
It's proposed the council increase the area to allow for 5 more parks but also introduce a freedom camper ranger, a fence and extra public toilet to address concerns.
Opposition to the extension came from people who lived nearby - weary of the littering, traffic and loss of views.
However, 78% of submissions supported the proposed extension.
