Hutt City residents won't be able to sell their cars on the side of the road, from next Tuesday.
A new council bylaw coming into effect on December 2 will mean residents can't park their car in one spot for more than 24 hours to advertise it for sale.
The bylaw also means council will now be able to move cars in the way of resealing work - having given owners 24 hours notice.
Before the changes, contractors had to work around cars in the way, and come back to reseal once the car had moved.
Ticketing on time-restricted car parks, suspended while council reviewed the bylaw following a court case, will resume.
