Wellington commuters may be struggling to get to work on time after a number of mechanical issues on the train network.

A power connector on the 6.28am train from Waikanae to Wellington came off, leading to it breaking down at Linden on Friday morning.

All Kapiti line services have been suspended, Metlink says.

Bus replacements are running from Porirua to Wellington but Metlink is recommending passengers take alternative transport as services are limited.

Meanwhile, all services on the Johnsonville line are suspended between Wellington and Ngaio after an overhead power fault.

The announcement was made just before 8.30am and affected passengers should expect significant delays.

Metlink again recommended taking alternative transport.

Meanwhile, the 7.37am and 8.30am services from Upper Hutt to Wellington were cancelled because of earlier delays, and the next service is at 9am.
