The Greens' Mojo Mathers has posted an emotional farewell to Parliament - as she doesn't believe special votes will see her retain her seat.

She's ranked ninth on the party list. On provisional results, the Green Party will have seven MPs, but it has a chance of increasing that when special votes are counted.

Mojo Mathers posted on Facebook she had mixed feelings - as she is sad the party has dropped so much and she and other candidates have missed out.

However she said she is relieved the Greens made it over the five percent threshold and can keep being a voice for planet and people.

Ms Mathers said she is proud of her time in Parliament, as she's "shown that deaf people can hold political office".

"I did want to be back in. I really wanted to be able to continue the work I've been doing on disability rights and animal welfare, including accessibility, captioning legislation, NZSL and much more."

Meanwhile, the Greens have said they're open to Winston Peters as the next Foreign Minister.

It's a role that's been suggested for the New Zealand First leader if a coalition with Labour and the Greens gets over the line.

Green leader James Shaw says his party would be comfortable with that.

"My understanding from people who worked with him when he was foreign minister under Helen Clark is that actually he did a pretty good job of that. It's not a job that the Green Party is angling for."

The leader of the Labour Party Jacinda Ardern said she hasn’t yet spoken with Winston Peters about a coalition partnership.
