A new political poll suggests one of National's key allies, Peter Dunne, could be out of Parliament come September.

TVNZ's Q+A programme has polled 500 people in the Ohariu electorate.

The survey shows Labour candidate Greg O'Connor well out in front, with 48 percent backing.

Mr Dunne, the leader of United Future, trails well behind on 34 percent, while National's candidate Brett Hudson sits at 14 percent.

Figures for the party vote tally closely with national figures: National has 46 percent, Labour 35 percent, and the Greens at 12 percent.
