Waikato drivers warned to take extreme caution due to flooding

Waikato Council is warning people to be extremely careful on the roads this weekend.

They also want to hear from anyone who sees slips or flooding.

A number of roads are closed or have surface flooding, near Huntly.

Rotowaro Road is closed from Gully Road to Waikokowai Road and four wheel drives are needed for the parts which haven't been closed.

There's surface flooding on a number of other roads and council teams are out dealing with the issues.

The Council is warning people to be careful on the roads this weekend.

The following roads are closed due to flooding:
- Rotowaro Road is closed from Gully Road to Waikokowhai Road. 
- Rotowaro Road near tramway.
- Waikokowhai and Rotowaro Road 4 wheel drive only.
Surface flooding in the following areas but roads are still open:
- Waingaro Rd about 3KM past Rotowaro Rd intersection
- Te Akau just as you come off Highway 22 on the first corner there is surface flooding and about 3 KM past there the whole road is flooded and there is a road bridge there as well.
- Riverview Road, Huntly. Near 26 Riverview Rd
- Hakarimata Road, Nga. Between 400-760 Hakarimata Rd. 1 Lane
- Highway 22 at Waingaro school
- Ohautira and Putawa Road
