Hunters are delighted they can once again go into the Urewera ranges.
The moratorium on hunting permits was put in place when Tuhoe regained control of the land from the Department of Conservation.
The Deerstalkers Association says permits are available again, fulfilling a commitment from the Te Urewera Board that it would enable hunting by Christmas.
Bill O'Leary there'll be good weather over the Christmas break, so hunters can get out and fill their freezers.
He expects hunters will learn and respect new protocols.
