To deal with a growing homeless problem the Tauranga City Council is looking to replicate Hamilton's safety bylaw.
There are around 40 homeless people who congregate in Tauranga's central city.
Last year the Hamilton City Council introduced a bylaw to make anti social behaviour such as sleeping, begging, drinking and defecating in public an offence.
Deputy Mayor Kelvin Clout says he applauds what Hamilton has done.
"I am particularly going to be working closely with Hamilton City Council to review what they've got in their by-law, and to look at the effectiveness of that. Then perhaps some of those learnings we can transfer."
