Tararua residents are being asked to check for leaky pipes and dripping tapes as urgent water conservation restrictions are put in place.
There's a total hose ban for Pahiatua and Woodvillle, and restrictions in Eketahuna, Akitio, Norsewood and Dannevirke.
Tararua District Council utilities manager Dave Watson says households must make a real effort to conserve water.
