Businesses neighbouring Tauranga's Chapel Street wastewater treatment plant are in for an odourous six weeks.

The plant is getting a new bio filter.

Tauranga City Council Wastewater Services team leader Wally Potts says businesses bordering the plant will be affected some days.

"While those works are underway, there is the potential for some odour escape from some of the treatment processes."
