Northland drivers can expect major road works following the labour weekend.
The New Zealand Transport Agency will spend $8.4 million on the annual maintenance work of the region's highways.
Transport Agency Regional Journey Manager Jacqui Hori-Hoult says people should be cautious when approaching one of the 21 allocated work sites.
"If you can just be mindful of the speeds because we've put them put them out there for our customers just to let them know they're coming up to something where guys are going to be working on site."
Ms Hori-Hoult says a lot of the work will be done overnight and during the weekend to minimize delays.
