A internet provider based in Whangarei is involved in a legal stoush with taxi company Uber.

Uber Group, which has been operating since 2004, says recent publicity about the taxi outfit is affecting its brand.

It applied to trademark its name six months ago - only to find it had been beaten by the taxi firm.

Now the internet company has hired a trademark lawyer, and is in talks with its namesake to resolve the issue.
