More people than usual are getting themselves into trouble in Northland waters.

Over the last three days alone a 25 year old has drowned, a 16 year old has gone missing off the coast of 90 Mile Beach and 3 boaties needed to be rescued.

Senior Sergeant Daniel Cleaver says the number of rescues over the past few days is higher than previous years.

Senior Sergeant Cleaver says they always have a number of rescues each year because of the visitors to the area, but this year is particularly bad.
