A late fall in the cross-country has ended Sir Mark Todd's hopes of winning a sixth Burghley Horse Trials title.
Todd's horse Leonidas II fell after over-jumping and losing his footing on a landing.
"It's not something he's ever done like that before, but just really, really frustrating because I think without that we probably would have been inside the time," he said.
The decorated eventer has been eliminated in the cross-country.
Tim Price is the best of the Kiwi eventers after the cross-country phase.
Price has incurred just  5.2 time penalties to have a score of 46.5, which has him currently sitting fourth.
Andrew Nicholson and Nereo are sixth.
